The sun is rising at the Pole, but this once-a-year occurrence is a much more gradual happening than the once-a-day occurrence most of us experience (or don’t, if we sleep through it, as the case may be). Above, increasing sunlight lets you clearly see the flag path leading to the Dark Sector (here’s a Google Maps panoramic view of this area, on a clear bright day);

By 2010, the year that construction was completed, it was clear that the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a project inspired and led by UW–Madison scientists and engineers, was one of the most amazing international science projects of the last few decades. Since then, scientists all around the world have been screening the data from the detector for traces of very high-energy neutrinos, which could reveal the source and nature of cosmic rays

Over the course of 12 weeks, they studied neutrino physics, learning about cosmic-rays, supernovae, and sifting through real data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole.
