Week 39 at the Pole

Monday, September 9, 2013 - 4:45am

The sun is finally rising over the flags.

Now that looks like the sun—finally! It’s rising up over the flags at the ceremonial South Pole. And below is a nice clear shot of the ICL (IceCube Lab), the first one of those to be had in awhile. It was a “clear” week in terms of detector operations, too—smooth sailing and no failures to deal with. Statistics for the week reported a livetime, i.e., the percentage of time that the detector was up and running, of 99.71%. Not bad.

Clear view of the ICL.
