description

IceCube, the biggest and strangest telescope in the world, was built in one of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth to develop new ways to explore the universe. In this activity, you’ll learn about the “ghost particle”: What can neutrinos tell us about the composition of matter, cosmic explosions, and more? How does IceCube “see” something that’s invisible?

You’ll have the chance to design and calibrate your own detector and test your knowledge with a particle quiz using real IceCube data.

Afterschool Expeditions is a free drop-in program for students in grades K-8 to explore, engage and discover science from UW–Madison and the Morgridge Institute for Research with structured hands-on activities.
