Week 8 at the Pole

Cluster of flags at South Pole, with sun low in overcast sky

The sun is still out at the South Pole, but it’s getting low in the sky (they have one loooong sunset down there).  And it’s cold as usual—a quick run around the block left IceCube winterover Benjamin looking a little frosty.  Indoors things are warm, and there have been plenty of fun activities, like volleyball, board games, movie nights, and yoga classes.  The station’s supply of fresh fruit is dwindling, but the greenhouse is in full swing, ensuring regular salads with their meals.  For some, a lovely chocolate and hazelnut dessert might be enough to forget about the lack of fresh fruit.  At least for a while.
