Last week saw the arrival of IceCube’s second winterover, Mack van Rossem, finally (an unusual glitch this year left IceCube with only one winterover until now). Mack got to jump right in, driving the scout for the regular December snow survey. He also arrived in time for traditional holiday events and festivities. There was the annual Race Around the World, or rather, the relatively short race through all of the world’s time zones—still, a fun race (more here, and a recipe!). Christmas was also celebrated, with decorations, carols, presents, and a fancy dinner. And toward the end of the week, the Dark Sector open house was held, with the IceCube crew giving tours of the ICL to approximately 40 visitors.
