The summer season has begun, bringing 30 new people to the South Pole on two Basler flights last week.  One of those flights is shown above—the monochromatic image rather dramatically portraying the desolate landscape of the Pole.  Below are the new arrivals making their way to the station, and the plane departing for McMurdo, where it will pick up and return with even more people.  Before the first of the summer crew arrived, the winterovers celebrated one of their last days alone together with a karaoke session in the galley.
