With a near perfect uptime and very few detector issues, winterovers enjoyed a quiet week. However, the main stairway in the station is under construction forcing some winterovers to use the beercan. The beercan stays at a temperature comparable to the outside and with temperatures reaching below -100 °F for several days, winterovers were reminded “It's a harsh continent!” It may be cold but the auroras will never get old!

The only way to get from this berthing to the rest of the station is to either go up the outside stairs or up the beercan stairs.  In either case it is a cold trip. Credit: James Casey, IceCube/NSF
