The previous week’s feature image showed the South Pole Telescope with the moon setting behind it. Here we see it again, but set against an aurora backdrop while its dish is scanning the sky for CMB (cosmic microwave background) mapping. So, what else was happening at the Pole last week? Any darts, you ask? Well, yes, there was some more darts action, as the tournament finally came to its end. It was South Pole against Concordia—South Pole came out ahead, with a final winning shot from IceCube winterover Stephan. They also enjoyed an “aerospace” movie week. Check out the hanging posters. How many of those films have you seen?
