Last week at the Pole, the fire alarm system was being overhauled, which entailed test alarms going off almost every morning.  What’s a winterover to do but take to the hills?  Especially with the IceCube detector behaving well.  So outdoors they went to take advantage of the photogenic night skies.  Above is a shot of bright auroras that appear to be encircling Jupiter.  In the bottom image, you can make out the Magellanic Clouds and Canopus, the brightest star in the Carina constellation and the second brightest star in the night sky.
