Mid-winter at the South Pole!
F. Pedreros, Icecube/NSF

They’re halfway there! It’s midwinter at the South Pole, and they’re celebrating. There are well-plated meals on a nicely set table, greeting cards exchanged with other Antarctic winterovers, and gifts received. One gift was from USAP (United States Antarctic Program) management—a set of 3D puzzles, shown below in their completed state set out on a table. Another was a gift box from Madison for the IceCube winterovers to open, full of … hmm, looks like maybe some cavities in the making. Hope there’s a dentist down there.

They are celebrating the halfway mark.
