With the equinox last week (the March equinox, that is, to avoid the ambiguity of the seasonal names), the annual sunset dinner was held at the South Pole station. It’s a celebration for a unique sunset that most of us don’t get to experience—where the sun sets slowly over time and, once set, does not reappear for another six months. So they plan a festive meal, with some special-occasion foods. They may use the same actual plates each year, but the menu changes. This year, they enjoyed beef tenderloin and Maine lobster tails. And a lovely sunset, of course.
